Michael Simpson: Master of Bronze Sculpture and the Art of Animal Expression
Michael Simpson is internationally renowned for the versatility and technical brilliance of his bronze sculptures. His lifelong fascination with animal behaviour, combined with his exceptional artistic skill, allows him to create tactile and expressive pieces that capture the charm and vitality of domestic animals, birds, and wildlife.
Growing up in Stoke-on-Trent, Michael was immersed in the rich artistic traditions of the Potteries, where the art of sculpture is held in high esteem. After studying fine art at Staffordshire, he pursued his passion for three-dimensional art, working primarily in wax and clay before casting in bronze. His studio walls are lined with sketches and photographs, as he meticulously observes his subjects to achieve striking realism in his work.
Michael’s sculptures are collected worldwide, with notable admirers including Tom Jones. He has collaborated with fellow artists such as David Shepherd and has used his work to support charitable foundations, including the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Deeply inspired by the history of his craft, Michael reflects, “Bronze has been valued and appreciated from the earliest civilizations in Greece, Egypt, and Rome to the modern world. It is fascinating to remember that the manufacturing techniques employed have changed little over the years, so my contemporary sculptures are rooted firmly within a strong ancient tradition.”
