Mary Shaw: Capturing the Delicate Beauty of the English Countryside
Mary Shaw’s exquisite paintings are enchanting art lovers across the UK with their delicate evocations of the natural world. Using a variety of media, she balances loosely painted organic foregrounds with exquisitely detailed meadow flowers, creating a striking contrast that brings each scene to life. Her innovative use of diamond dust adds an iridescent sparkle, giving a contemporary twist to her otherwise traditional landscapes.
Born in Bristol, where she still lives and works, Mary is a self-taught artist with a natural aptitude for painting. She completed her first commission at just thirteen and later spent four years in Zimbabwe and Cape Town, where she established herself as a professional artist. Returning to the UK, she was inspired by the English countryside, particularly the rare and endangered species found in its hedgerows, and began incorporating them into her work.
Mary’s paintings have been exhibited extensively throughout the UK and are collected worldwide. Her work has found a home in prestigious collections, including that of the King of Qatar, who was gifted one of her pieces by his son, Prince Abdullah Al Thani.
“Nature is always in my paintings. I love delicate flowers and grasses and am fascinated with movement – the sight of flowers and grasses blowing in the wind is truly beautiful.”
