Born in Donetsk, Ukraine in 1961, Andrei Protsouk is a contemporary figurative artist whose work blends classical European training with the expressive energy of modern American life. Raised in a creative household—his mother an embroiderer and calligrapher, his father a photographer—he developed an early eye for form, composition, and narrative.
He trained at the Lugansk State School of Fine Art and later at the renowned Ilya Repin Institute in Saint Petersburg, studying under master painter Evsey Moiseenko. Graduating top of his class in 1989, he earned the elite Red Diploma and Lenin Student Stipend, with his drawings entering museum collections and academic publications.
Protsouk immigrated to the United States in 1994, a shift that transformed his artistic voice. His earlier Soviet-era works carried darker symbolism; in America, his palette opened into vibrant colour, dynamic movement, and themes celebrating freedom, connection, and everyday human intimacy.
His work is collected internationally across North America, Europe, New Zealand, and Japan, with exhibitions in New York City and a strong presence in Pennsylvania’s fine art community. Central to his practice is his signature “Fine Line” technique—an approach rooted in classical draftsmanship that uses strong constructive line to create rhythm, balance, and emotional flow.
Protsouk’s paintings explore love, romance, music, movement, and shared human moments. His colleague Gennadii Gogoliuk describes his style as “Americana Eroticism,” capturing the joyful, sensual poetry of daily life.
Andrei Protsouk lives and works in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where he maintains his studio and Andrei Art Gallery. His evolving body of work continues to fuse European tradition with contemporary American spirit, inviting viewers into a world of beauty, emotion, and connection.
