Lou Sheldon: Capturing the Essence of Landscape Through Intuition and Texture

Australian-based artist Lou Sheldon creates evocative mixed-media paintings that offer a spontaneous and intuitive interpretation of the landscape. Her energetic brushwork and fluid approach result in impressionistic and abstract compositions that invite viewers to engage with the piece on a personal level.

Lou’s artistic philosophy embraces freedom, favouring a painterly style over rigid structure. Her bold, textured works—crafted with oils, oil pastels, and gold leaf on canvas and linen—combine vibrancy with tranquillity. Influenced by the French Impressionists, she seeks to capture the serene isolation of nature, offering an escape from the chaos of urban life. Some of her landscapes naturally evolve into abstract forms, where she explores shape and composition as part of an ever-evolving creative puzzle.

After studying drawing and painting as part of her Visual Arts degree, Lou spent time in Los Angeles before establishing her own studio in Melbourne. Her work is sought after by collectors worldwide, with commissions reaching as far as Dubai. She has exhibited in renowned European venues, including the Monat Gallery in Madrid and The Basilica of Sant' Ambrogio in Milan.
