Kay: Lyrical Floral Fantasies
Kay’s enchanting floral artworks are a celebration of nature's beauty, capturing blooms at every stage of their life cycle—from dewy buds at dawn to windblown petals on their last breath. Inspired by wildlife and the changing seasons, she ventures out at sunrise to photograph flowers in their most captivating moments, often spotting bees still nestled on blossoms. To Kay, even a faded, weathered flower holds its own charm and natural elegance.
Blending oils and acrylics, Kay’s technique creates a stunning contrast between textured, vibrant foregrounds and smooth, atmospheric backgrounds. Occasionally, she adds gold or silver leaf to accentuate details, reflecting her dreamy and joyful nature through each piece. Her work radiates warmth and positivity, embodying her own personality on canvas.
With over 20 years as a professional artist, Kay’s journey was sparked by a life-changing visit to a David Shepherd exhibition. One painting—a frost-covered bramble bush—left her spellbound by the intricate interplay of blues, greys, and purples, and ignited her desire to pursue art full-time.
After living in Cyprus for several years, Kay felt the pull of the English countryside and returned to rural Cheshire, where her passion for flowers and wildlife continues to flourish.
