Dylan Izaak: A Contemporary Take on Urban Life
Dylan Izaak’s distinctive cityscape paintings have captivated art lovers across Britain, offering a fresh and bold perspective on urban life. His dynamic depictions of skylines, iconic buildings, and bustling city scenes invite viewers to see the world through a unique lens, blending intricate detail with a sense of freedom and spontaneity.
Raised between England and Australia, Dylan’s global upbringing influenced his artistic journey. He began by drawing notable buildings from around the world, developing his own personal style. His reputation grew rapidly, culminating in his selection as one of the Official BT Olympic Artists for 2012.
Dylan works on aluminium, starting with an accurate sketch before rapidly drawing over it to encourage “happy accidents,” allowing for an organic, liberated approach. This process involves repeatedly refining the drawing before painstakingly painting gloss into each section. Once complete, he draws over the entire piece with black paint to bring the image to life. Each artwork typically requires around 100 hours of meticulous work.
“I like to see objects not as one complete entity, but rather as the sum of their parts,” Dylan says. By exaggerating and twisting features of buildings, he brings out the character and personality of the urban landscape in a way that is uniquely his own.
